Shirley Anne Tate is Professor and Canada Research Chair Tier 1 in Feminism and Intersectionality, Sociology Department, University of Alberta and Honorary Professor, Nelson Mandela University. Being an African-descent Jamaican impacts her research on Black diaspora studies, the intersections of race and gender, institutional racism, Blackness, affect, 'race' performativity and Caribbean decolonial theory.


Amira Benali, PhD

I'm an Assistant Professor at the Department of Culture and Learning at Aalborg University in Denmark. I hold a PhD in socioeconomics from the University of Geneva in Switzerland. My work focuses on gender, social justice, poverty and alternative economies in the context of Tourism and management. My current project focuses on the experiences of subaltern women with social entrepreneurship in Tunisia.

Sadhvi Dar

Sadhvi Dar is Reader in Interdisciplinary Management and Organisation Studies at the School of Business and Management, Queen Mary University of London, UK. Sadhvi's academic training crosses different fields of study including psychosocial and psychoanalytic psychology, fine art, management studies, and critical development studies. Since early on in her scholarship she has found inspiration in postcolonial studies, decolonial theory, chicana feminisms, and Black liberation philosophies. This resonance has much to do with her own positionality as a daughter of Indian middle-class migrants who made their way to the UK in the 1960s and 1970s. She is a founding member of the activist groups, Decolonizing Alliance and Building the Anti-Racist Classroom collective (BARC).

Zahro Hassan

Zahro Hassan (she/her) is a doctoral candidate in Educational Policy Studies at the University of Alberta. She is also an educator, advocate, and EDI consultant with extensive community development experience in Toronto, Ottawa, and Edmonton. Her main research project involves a qualitative exploration of Young Adult Refugees' experiences accessing post-secondary education in Canada.

Prof-Collins Ifeonu

Prof-Collins Ifeonu is a Research Assistant working on the Canada aspects of the Anti-Racism Lab project He is a Doctoral Candidate in Sociology at the University of Alberta. He is a senior Research Assistant for the Anti-Racism Lab Project, focusing on Canada. His fundamental research interest is in the interplay of social positions and social exchanges in a variety of contexts. His doctoral thesis is a qualitative investigation of Black International students' relationship to anti-racism movements in Alberta. Despite his current engagement in Sociology, Prof-Collins' academic and professional background is firmly rooted in Management, having completed his Bachelors' and Masters' degrees in Human Resource Management, and worked for a short while at public and private companies in England and his home country, Nigeria. 

Veronica Wairimu Kimani

A PhD candidate whose research draws from techno feminisms and explores how Kenyan women within a post colonial context use creativity, technology, and innovation to collectively challenge patriarchy in their work and home spaces. She finds inspiration in decolonial and black feminist theory. Actively creating nourishing communities both online and offline where the wellness of marginalised communities is centered is a passion for Veronica.
